Training (undergrad / postgrad / fellowship)
I completed my undergraduate training at the University of Bristol Medical School and my basic surgical training at the University Hospitals of Leicester. In 2002 I came to Shropshire having obtained a post on the Oswestry / Stoke Trauma and Orthopaedic Specialist Registrar training programme and worked in Telford, Dudley, Stoke-on-Trent, Shrewsbury and Oswestry during my rotation.
Towards the end of my training I developed a sub-speciality interest in Foot and Ankle disorders spending a year in the Foot and Ankle Unit in Oswestry. I also gained a wide experience of and became interested in limb deformity surgery during my final two years particularly during my time with Professor Thomas in Stoke-on-Trent. I have been on a fellowship to the Russian Ilizarov Scientific Centre for Restorative Traumatology and Orthopaedics, Kurgan, Russia to study frame surgery particularly in foot and ankle, trauma, deformity and infective problems.
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with an interest in Foot and Ankle Surgery and Limb Reconstruction at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital, Oswestry commenced October 2008.
Research / Top 5 publications
The Foot and Ankle unit at Oswestry has an active research and audit profile with several ongoing projects and we hold regular research meetings.
I have a particular interest in teaching / training. I am involved in the local training programme and also convene the Oswestry Intensive Clinical Examination Course for FRCS (Tr&Orth) open nationally to Orthopaedic Trainees approaching their FRCS exam. I am looking to undertake a Post-graduate Certificate in Medical Education as part of my commitment to teaching.
My wife works as a Sister in the Casualty Department at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and we have two young children who, along with our dogs, keep us very busy. I am a keen golfer when I have the time.
